We have been studying airplanes and flying. We demonstrated the force of atmospheric pressure by heating a small amount of water and air in an old aluminum can. We then quickly flipped the can upside down into a pan of cold water, causing a reduction in pressure of the air remaining inside the can. Atmospheric pressure was then sufficient to crush the aluminum can- with quite a POP! A video would have been more interesting, but A) I am having trouble with video uploads and blogger and B) there were no extra hands around to make the video at the time of the demo!
